Desks & Classrooms Project 2007-2009

March 15th, 2009

Caring for Congolese Children is engaged in a two-year project to improve the learning environment at a Congolese school, Ecole Primaire Cardinal Malula, at Mont N’Gafula, Kinshasa.  The work involves renovating 17 classrooms and providing 200 new children’s desks and 15 teachers’ desks and chairs.  Thanks to a generous grant from Anglo American Group Foundation and the wonderful support of Fern Hill Primary School in Kingston upon Thames, UK, the project is on target to be completed during 2009.

Kingston upon Thames Carnival & Surbiton Festival 2008

October 11th, 2008

To help raise funds for our various projects, Caring for Congolese Children ran stalls at both the Kingston upon Thames Carnival on August 31st and the Surbiton Festival on 27th September 2008. Homemade cakes – offered by Trustees and friends – sold very well and proceeds of £499 were achieved. These events also gave us the opportunity to publicize our charity and distribute our leaflets.

Water cisterns project – July 2007

August 7th, 2007

Thanks to the generosity of Fern Hill Primary School, in Kingston upon Thames, UK, Caring for Congolese Children was able to successfully complete the first of several planned projects at a primary school in Kinshasa, Ecole Primaire Cardinal Malula, Mont N’Gafula.

The school had previously suffered from inadequate water storage facilities, dilapidated toilets and a lack of drinking water. Happily, the pupils and staff now have clean and plentiful drinking water, new toilets and washbasins, thus greatly improving pupil comfort and hygiene standards. We anticipate that this, in turn, will contribute to improvements in the pupils’ educational results.

Fern Hill Primary School, Kingston upon Thames

July 28th, 2006

Caring for Congolese Children was appointed in July 2006 as Fern Hill Primary School’s principal charity. Additionally, the school has confirmed it would like to participate in a twinning arrangement with a Congolese primary school, Ecole Primaire Cardinal Malula, located in Mont Ngafula, Kinshasa.

Caring for Congolese Children is greatly looking forward to working closely with Fern Hill Primary School regarding fundraising events and the school twinning project which, we are sure, will prove beneficial to the young pupils of both schools.
