Caring for Congolese Children

   We were delighted to receive another generous cheque, this time for £500, from Adam Walker (see blog of 19^th June 2009, below). Adam and his friends raised this sum from the proceeds of his launch party in October 2009 for “Just in Reach”, a non-profit organisation set up and run in Birmingham, England, by teenagers who fundraise for needy and sick children through concerts and various sporting events.

Part of the money donated helped to provide a special Christmas meal for the malnourished children we support at the Centre Mère Marie Augustine in Kinshasa and the balance was used in our normal daily feeding programme.

We are grateful for the sums received from Adam and his friends in Just in Reach and we are impressed by their keenness to make a big difference by helping to improve the lives of malnourished and sick children.    

         A fundraising children’s art exhibition organised by the charity “Trust in Children” (TiC) was held at the V & A Museum of Childhood in London on 21st October 2009. For the last three years TiC has generously provided funding for our “Project Hope”, the education of 42 impoverished children at the Centre Mère Marie Augustine in Kinshasa, a feeding centre, school and health unit supported by Caring for Congolese Children.

The exhibition displayed artwork by children from TiC supported projects in various countries.  The exhibition’s theme was “When I grow up” and the drawings and paintings portrayed the children’s dreams of what they aspire to become in adult life.  The well-attended exhibition was a great success, as was the auction of five selected works of art, including one by a child at the Centre Mère Marie Augustine.

Caring for Congolese Children took part again in this year’s Kingston upon Thames Carnival on Sunday September 6th.  Unlike last year, the weather was kind to us and we enjoyed a successful day’s fundraising, selling cakes - many homemade, others donated by local businesses - as well as soft drinks and children’s treats.  Many thanks to all who participated, either by helping out on the stall, baking cakes or asking local traders for cake donations!  The money raised will be used in our projects at the Centre Mère Marie Augustine in Kinshasa, where we support the feeding, health and education of very poor and malnourished children.
